About the class: Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators will learn the foundations of examining a deceased body and discern characteristics that may differentiate between a suicide and homicide.
TOPICS:
- The stages of death.
- The role of scene/body examinations in determining homicide versus suicide
- The physical signs of a hanging and how to differentiate from strangulation.
- The signs of close/contact, mid-range, and long-distance gunfire.
- Attempt to disguise murders in water and fire.
- Indications a body has been moved.
INSTRUCTOR: Joe Kolb, MA, D-ABMDI- Former deputy investigator for the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator. He has served as a Detention Officer for the Santa Fe County Adult Detention Center and Acting President for the New Mexico Gang Investigators Association. Kolb has over a decade of teaching criminal justice classes at Western New Mexico University and UNM Gallup and Valencia campuses. He is also a professional lecturer for the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy.
