SUMMARY:Realistic De-Escalation – Train-the-Trainer
DESCRIPTION:The goal of this program is to teach law enforcement professionals the necessary skills to accurately\nassess potentially violent confrontations and, when feasible, defuse them with easy-to-grasp, successfully applied tactics to avoid use-of-force crises.\nThis course also provides crucial information to allow successful students to learn the material needed to successfully teach these concepts to their fellow officers. The ultimate goal of this Force Science course is to enhance de-escalation efforts with the help of science – both in the field and in training – while also critically applying an understanding of human factors and performance research to most effectively address challenging situations with individuals in the midst of a crisis.\nThis course includes 14 hours of lecture and presentations and 2 hours of lab. In the lab, students\nparticipate in a teaching exercise and work through various de-escalation scenarios while being observed\nby other students and coached by instructors.\nClick to view Training Flyer\n\nThis Realistic De-escalation Instructor Course has been certified for sixteen hours of Continued Law\nEnforcement Education (CLEE) credits through the International Association of Directors of Law\nEnforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST) for their National Certification Program (NCP) review for POST accreditation.\nIADLEST NCP accreditation is currently accepted in 36 states. The seal conveyed by IADLEST is a sign\nthat the selected courses are held to high and consistent standards. This is part of an overall effort to\nensure police officer training and criminal justice education throughout the country are carried out in\nconsistent and helpful ways.\n
